Ed.D. in Educational Leadership

How to Apply

Interested candidates should use the UConn online application process through the Graduate School. The deadline for completed applications is March 1. Cohorts begin every other year on the odd year (2011, 2013, 2015, etc.). GRE scores are required by the Graduate School for all doctoral programs; scores submitted cannot be older than five (5) years. The program operates out of the Storrs campus and most courses will be held in Storrs.

Please note that graduates of the Ed.D. program do not receive a CT-093 endorsement for the Connecticut superintendency. The Executive Leadership Program is a separate program for pursuing the 093 certification.

Requirements

Applicants to the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership ordinary have the following:

  • A depth and breadth of relevant experience in the field of educational leadership
  • Have earned an administrative certificate (e.g. CT-092)

All applicants must meet the Graduate School requirements for admission into a doctoral program of study.

Timeline

  • Application deadline: March 1
  • Review of applications: March-April
  • Interviews with finalists: April-May
  • Acceptance letters sent: May
  • Classes begin: fall semester

To apply

  1. Complete the Application to the Graduate School (online preferred)
     
  2. Assemble your application materials for the Graduate School:
    • Official transcripts of all collegiate work (including UConn)
    • Residence Affidavit
    • TOEFL Scores (if a foreign student)
    • 3 Letters of Recommendation
    • GRE Scores1 (not more than 5 years old)

    Mail completed graduate school application materials in one packet to:

  4. Interview
    For Ed.D. applicant finalists. Notification will take place following review of applications in March-April.

1The schedule for GRE testing is independent of UConn application deadlines. Please plan accordingly. You may receive testing information and dates on-line at www.gre.org. Note: The Neag School of Education has set a target of 1200 for combined verbal and quantitative scores.

2The personal statement should identify a significant problem of leadership practice faced in your work setting, including an analysis of why this is a problem and how it relates to the improvement of student learning and life outcomes (1500 word maximum).

3Finalists will be asked to send an academic writing sample to the Department of Educational Leadership prior to the interview date. The writing sample is chosen by the applicant as a representation of the applicant's scholarly writing ability. You may send this with the initial application or at a later date, but the writing sample must be received before the interview.

The Admissions Committee will review only completed applications and support materials received by the deadline.
